Legislative Update: House Passes FAA Extension
On December 11, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a second temporary extension of
FAA authority through March 8, 2024, to provide additional time to
complete a long-term FAA Reauthorization. Although the temporary measure
has since been stalled by unrelated negotiations on Ukraine funding and
border security, Senate passage is expected before the current FAA
extension expires on December 31. The House passed comprehensive FAA
reauthorization legislation with
broad bipartisan support in July, but the Senate bill has been stymied
by potential changes to flight training requirements and the commercial
pilot retirement age. In the meantime, short-term extensions authorize
the Agency to continue current programs and the collection of taxes and
fees. | |
